We're Peaches & Cream. We're just two ordinary Joes who like reading and romance. Recently, there was a Summer Solstice Romance Festival on ASSM, and it caught our attention. We started discussing the stories and our reviews were born. Our format is simple: one of us starts the review, the other chimes in, and then the starter finishes it off. Because this is all about romance, we'll be scoring with 0-5 kisses. We'll be posting a review a day until we finish the stories that were submitted, beginning with the Flash stories. There is a website devoted to the festival where you can find all the stories we will review. http://www.asstr-mirror.org/files/Authors/Rui_Favorites/www/RomFest Romance has been elegantly defined as the offspring of fiction and love. -- Benjamin Disraeli *** Peaches & Cream Reviews: Ice Sweat by Biff Jones. (fict, rom, FF) http://assm.asstr-mirror.org/Year2002/36932 *** Cream: This is a cool story. A hot story. A woman is sitting alone outside of a Savannah cafe, on a hot June day daydreaming and watching the condensation slip down the sides of her lemonade glass when she feels the shock of ice on her shoulder. From the reflection in the cafe window she can tell it's another woman, not someone she's expecting. >I was torn between confronting this strange >woman and leaving, but maybe because of the hot, >slow air, I wasn't thinking very quickly. Yet >when her cool hand descended to rest lightly on >my neck, the chip of ice burned a hole in my >indecision. I gasped out loud at the sudden >frozen sensation. I could not let this continue; >I am a happily married woman, and have never >even considered being bisexual. But in spite of >my indignation, I somehow continued to sit >quietly and watch her imperfect reflection >instead of turning to protest. What would you do? I can tell you for certain that if a strange man started rubbing ice chips on my shoulders, I'd protest, or at least leave, but if it were a strange woman, well, that's the stuff of fantasy. Similarly, in my fantasies I think it might be neat to rub ice over some attractive woman, but I wouldn't, mostly because ... well, I don't know. Because I couldn't get away with it? Because it's just not done in polite society? Because it might upset her? One thing I like about this story is that I don't really question that this could happen. It's a dreamy, sultry Savannah setting, and the pace is languid, and the details are just right. Yes, I believe it. After this things get even hotter, and the descriptions are vivid and intense right up to the end, when I might have liked one extra detail to make the woman's experience particular. Maybe I'm asking too much. Maybe that wasn't the point. I do think the very last line is a little anticlimactic and probably unnecessary. *** Peaches: The author does a very nice job of setting the scene, portraying the mood, and transporting me to Savannah. But that lazy mood makes me want to disagree about the reality issue. This is more believable as a dream, a hot, sexy dream but still a dream. The fact that you think of it as a fantasy come true, Cream, tells me that you just might think of it as a dream as well. I definitely agree about the last line though, the story doesn't need it. My biggest question is what's the difference between sweating slightly and merely perspiring? On our romance scale this story receives 3 kisses from me. *** Cream: Three kisses from you--hey, Peaches, that's really good. I'd take that any day. I don't really see this as a full-bodied romance story. The characters don't quite connect in a romantic way, though the connection is interesting and exciting and provocative. So my kiss rating is a shade under two. But my sexy daydream rating for this piece is four point five. That's pretty sultry, a touch or two below sizzle. Converted to Celsius I'm sure we're well into the 90's. Having said that, I really didn't see the story as a dream. Dreamy yes. But it works best if we think of it as real. And I thought of it as real. And it worked. Just not quite as romance. On the sweat-perspire continuum, where does glow fit in? At the trembly edge of orgasm? *** Peaches: 3 kisses Cream: 2 kisses with a 4.5 sexy daydream rating -- Pursuant to the Berne Convention, this work is copyright with all rights reserved by its author unless explicitly indicated. +---------------------------------------------------------------------------+ | alt.sex.stories.moderated ----- send stories to: | | FAQ: Moderator: | +---------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |Discuss this story and others in alt.sex.stories.d, look for subject {ASSD}| |Archive at Hosted by | +---------------------------------------------------------------------------+
