This is part one of the second series. There is no sexual activity in this part. I feel that character and plot development are essential make the stories realistic. If I am reading a sex story and come to a part that is not realistic, I get turned off. When the sex happens, and a reader can realistically realte to the scenario, it makes the story sizzle. Enjoy, and get to know the characters and their situations. Part 1 It was Friday when I heard the news about John. The new neighbors across the street were busy all weekend coming and going. They were probably unpacking and going to get things they needed and stuff. On Monday morning I went down the driveway and across the street to wait for the bus. The bus always picked up the kids on the side of the street opposite my house. Being a little-traveled residential area at the end of a subdivision, the school system figured it was safe for kids to cross the street and wait for the bus on the one side. While I stood there waiting, a door opened and shut behind me. The new kid emerged from the house. He made his way down his front walk and stood at the end of his driveway. He was standing about 20 feet from me further down the street. He just looked straight ahead, facing the street, like I wasn't even there. I couldn't tell if he was stuck up or shy. I decided to make a move to toward get to know him. After all, we were now neighbors. "Hey, man!" He looked over at me, and said, "Hi." Then he looked straight ahead just like he was doing before. I continued, "The bus must be running late. Usually I can hear it picking up kids the next street over by now. I haven't heard it yet." "Oh." Then he looked straight ahead again. I decided not to say anything else. He was blonde with longer, thin hair, about my height. He was dressed in nice clothes and shoes that looked expensive. He wore a designer jacket and had one of those high-priced brand-name backpacks. Maybe he was some rich kid who thought I was below his level. I finally heard the bus on the other street revving up, revving down, and squeaking to stops. It came down our street, and stopped to pick me up. The kid did not move from his spot. I got in a seat toward the back. The driver sounded the horn and motioned the new kid to come over and board the bus where I got on. (He must have thought that the driver would shut the door, detract the stop arm, cut off the flashing lights, drive 20 feet, extend the stop arm, reactivate the lights, and then pick him up.) He walked over. When he got on the driver said something to him, pointing out the door to the spot where I had stood. He was probably being told to get on with me, to save time and trouble. He just looked down, kind of red-faced, and took an empty seat toward the front of the bus. .We arrived at the school and I went to my homeroom class. About halfway into the class, the principal came into the room and my new neighbor was standing with him. "This is Joey Anderson. He has moved here from Indiana, and will be attending our school. Please be courteous and treat him as you would wish to be treated if you were in a different school on the first day. It can be very difficult, not knowing anybody or where to go in the building. Who would like to be a special friend and help Joey find his way around and introduce him to some of the other students?" Nobody was too excited about this proposition, not knowing if he was cool or not. It was quiet for a minute. I decided to step up, and raised my hand about halfway. "Good. Thanks, Timothy. Janet, would you please move to a different desk and allow Joey to sit next to Tim? Thank you." He turned to the teacher. "Oh yes, thank you too, Mrs. Schleskey, for allowing me to interrupt your class. Carry on." I whispered, "Hi." He said, "Hi," kind of shy-like. "Don't worry, I'll show you around." Class went on. In my school, all of the kids in each homeroom section had the same class schedule, so Joey was in all of the same classes as me. I showed him where the rooms were and stuff like that. It was a huge school. There were 7 homeroom sections in just the 7th grade alone, as well as a bunch of 5th, 6th, and 8th graders too. At lunch I asked him, "Why did you move here from Indiana?" "My dad got a transfer," he said shyly. Finally, I got a complete sentence out of him. "What do you like to do? Do you skateboard or play video games or anything like that?" He kind of lit up and smiled. "Yeah, I like skateboarding. I play some video games sometimes, but I don`t have a system." "Hey, you live right across the street. You wanna come over some time? I got a brand new Mega 276" "A 276! My a cousin has one of them. They are very realistic!" "Come over sometime." "OK. Thank you, I will sometime!" "I'll whoop your ass in WWF!" I thought a little light-hearted challenge would add to the fun. He had a surprised and serious look on his face. "You probably will. I have never played it." I was hoping he would respond with his own challenge, but instead I got a response of humility. Oh, well. At least I broke the ice. "I was kidding, man." "Oh." He sat quietly for a minute, looking down at the table. "I'm sorry I acted so strangely this morning on the street. I was apprehensive about attending a new school." "Hey, no problem. It ain't nothing but a thang." He looked at me with a question mark on his face. "I mean, it is nothing for you to be concerned about. I understand. It must be very hard to get used to a new place to live and a new school and a bunch of new people that you don't know." He nodded. Obviously, he was very intelligent, but didn't have many `street smarts`. The day went on and ended. We got on the bus and sat next to each other. He had told me quite a bit about himself and his family during the day. His dad worked for a company that makes kitchen appliances, some kind of a manager. His mom stayed at home. (She thought it would be better if he rode the bus right away on the first day, to help him get off to a good start. She drove to the school and met him there to enroll him.) I had found out about his grandparents back in Indiana. His grandfather was a mayor of some town, and his uncle was a radio guy. He had a big sister who was a student at Perdue University. He was very upset about moving away from his friends and relatives to a new place. He had a best friend that lived next door named Randy. Joey was 13 like me. I was older, though. My birthday was on August 30th, and his was on October 2nd. He looked "clean". That's the only way I can describe it. I said earlier that he wore nice clothes. He didn't like anything to be out of place. He frequently combed his hair during the day. In the boy's bathroom he went into a stall and closed the door to pee, and he came out and thoroughly washed his hands. Obviously he didn't feel comfortable using a urinal. Oh, yes. He also stopped in the bathroom to wash his hands while we were going to lunch. I went in with him and peed, but he did not pee. He just thoroughly washed his hands, and was very careful not to look toward me while I was standing at the urinal. He had the bluest eyes I had ever seen on a person. He was not what anyone would consider ugly, but he was so tentative and lacked confidence. It boosted my confidence and ego, though, to have him around. It was like he looked up to me. I was feeling pretty good about myself at the end of the day. The bus rolled to a stop and let us off. We stood there on the street side. "Wanna come over and play the Mega?" "I would enjoy that, but I would not be able to tonight. We are very busy getting unpacked and settled in. There are many boxes to unload and some furniture that we still have to move around. I also have a great deal of homework." "Hey, no problem. We'll hook up some other time. See you tomorrow, man." "Goodbye, Tim." He made his way up the walk towards his front door. About halfway he stopped, turned around, and said, "Thanks." "Anytime." His mother was waiting to greet him at the door. ________________________________________________________________________ Look for part 2.
