Had to get a new email, so I'm reposting my old works under the new
addy to get it out.
Here's another Patty tale dealing with what happened to someone who
was changed by Patty's magic, years after they were changed.
Now, onto the boring stuff

BAD WISHING 10:AFTER EFFECTS
Samantha put the last of the weights on the bar, lay on her back on
the bench, and started a series of bench presses. As she worked out,
Karl walked up and asked, "Aren't you supposed to have a spotter?"
Samantha snorted. "Like any of the pieces of fluff in this gym could
help me with this much weight."
Karl stood over her for a bit. "What's wrong, Samantha?"
"Wrong? What could be wrong?"
"Why don't you tell me? And could you do me a favor and stop and sit
up? I'd rather not be responsible for distracting you and hurting
you, even accidentally."
Samantha pushed the weight up and held it at arm's length. She
briefly considered telling "kooky" Karl to take a hike, but decided
not to. Despite his "kookiness", Karl was one of the nicest guys on
campus. He was just trying to be helpful.
Samantha put the weight bar back on the supports and sat up. Karl
sat beside her on the bench and asked, "What's wrong?"
"I don't know what you mean."
"Don't you? Samantha, without a doubt, you could probably out
perform anybody on campus in any field of endeavor. With the
exception of your girlfriend, Janey, you're stronger, faster, and
smarter than anyone on campus, and I wouldn't want to try to guess
who'd win if the two of you ever decided to compete against each
other. However, you're also usually nicer. But ever since Janey had
to go home to help with her father's funeral and the after effects of
his death, you've been growing steadily moodier and more sullen."
"I'm... just worried about Janey."
"No, that's not it."
Samantha stared at Karl for a bit before saying, "Damn, how do you
manage to cut through to the heart of things so easily?"
"It's a gift. So what is going on?"
Samantha thought about it for a while before saying, "You ever get
the feeling that something about you is just... different from what
it should be?"
"You're talking to "Kooky" Karl, and you have to ask that?"
Samantha smiled. It was the first smile she had smiled in a while.
"Seriously, though. Do you ever get the feeling that something about
you is radically different than what it should be, or maybe just what
it was?"
"Sure, but doesn't everybody?"
"Not like this."
"Not like what?"
"It started back in high school. I just got this feeling that
something was... wrong about me."
"Like how?"
"I'm not sure how to explain it. It's like one day I just realized I
was different from what I was supposed to be. I had never taken a
home ec course, but I've taken three shop classes, auto shop, metal
shop, and wood shop. I can't, for the life of me, ever remember
owning any dolls, much less playing with them, and I can't even
remember wearing a dress before my senior year, but that's
impossible. Mom has boxes full of my kid's stuff, and there are
dolls and dresses in there. It's so weird. It's like I was supposed
to be a guy, but one day... I wasn't."
"Do you think you're a transsexual? That down deep you're really a guy?"
"Oh, no. God, no. Don't get me wrong, I like what I am. It's just
that I get this feeling that what I am... isn't what I was."
"So if you're okay with what is, why all the problems?"
"It's like... you've got a shelf full of knickknacks and you've got
them arranged one way. Then someone comes in and rearranges them
into something better. You like the new arrangement, but the fact
that it's different and you never saw it being changed makes it feel
weird."
"So why the problems now?"
"That IS because Janey isn't here. When I'm with Janey, I feel like
everything's how it's supposed to be. And when we're in bed
together, all my problems just... fade away."
"And with Janey away..."
"The oddness just sits there like a thorn under my skin."
Karl sat there for a few seconds before saying, "Maybe I can help."
"How?"
"I know this'll just add to my kooky rep, but I'm a witch, well,
warlock actually. If you want, we can go back to my place and I can
run a magical check on you to see if I can get to the heart of what's
making you feel so weird."
"At this point, I'm willing to try anything."
The two got dressed and went over to Karl's apartment. When they
went in, Samantha saw a collection of crystals, talismans, and
various religious and mystic icons. Before Samantha could say a
thing, Karl said, "So am I kookier than ever, now that you've seen my
home?"
"Kind of, but this place suits you."
"Thanks. Let's get to work." Together, they moved the furniture out
of the center of the room. Karl closed the curtains on the windows,
and then drew a chalk circle on the floor, placed crystals at the
cardinal points on the circle and lit some incense. He sat them in
the circle, did some chanting, and drawing figures in the air with
his fingers. After a few minutes, he stopped and said, "Amazing."
"What?"
"You've had magic spells cast on you. Two on your body, one on your mind."
"What did they do? Where'd they come from?"
"I have no idea. But they're powerful, powerful magic."
"So what can we do?"
"I can put a tracer on the spell. We can then find the person or
persons who did this and ask what and why they did what they did."
"Okay."
Karl took Samantha's hands in hers and started chanting. After just
a couple seconds, Samantha felt a weird tingle running through her,
but only moments later, there was an explosion that separated them
and sent both flying to opposite sides of the room. Samantha's
nearly perfect physique allowed her a quick recovery and she ran over
and helped her friend up. "What happened?"
Rubbing his neck, Karl replied, "Whoever cast those spells didn't
like being tagged. We can try again, but this time we'll be a little
more polite."
"No. No way. I'm not going to risk my friend over this."
"Samantha-"
"No. I can live with the weirdness. Thanks, anyways. Are you going
to be okay?"
"Sure. If you change your mind though, let me know."
"If I do, then I will." Samantha turned to leave, but stopped cold.
"Karl, where'd the door go?"
Karl turned and looked at where the door should have been. Instead
there was only a solid wall, as if there had never been a door in the
first place. "Oh, no." Karl ran over to the window and yanked the
curtains open. Behind them was nothing but wall. He ran into the
bedroom, only to return a few seconds later, saying, "We're trapped.
Windows, vents, the door, every possible exit from the apartment is
gone as if it never existed."
"What do we do now?"
"Beg for forgiveness. Samantha, I didn't get an exact reading on the
guy who did this, but I did sense a fair distance between us. A
couple hundred miles at least. For him to do THIS at that distance
makes him far too powerful to risk leaving annoyed at us, even if we
do manage to get out of here."
The two returned to the center of the room. Karl took Samantha's
hands again and started chanting again. As Samantha felt the tingle
pass through her, Karl said, "Please, sir, we meant no disrespect.
My friend suffers from the spells you cast upon her. We simply
sought to alleviate that. We beg your forgiveness and ask for your
mercy."
Both were surprised when they heard a voice say, "At least yuir
cultivatin' a civil attitude." Both of them looked over and saw a
two foot tall man, dressed in green, smoking a briar pipe, with an
angry look on his face. The man removed the pipe from his mouth and
pointed the mouth piece at Karl. "One should be more polite when
dealing with the fae, child, particularly one as old as I."
"A Leprechaun? I never thought, never imagined the stories were true."
"Never imagined... You work magic and don't believe in the wee folk?
What are they teaching young wizards these days?"
"My mom told me about you, I just thought they were stories. Make-believe."
There was just a crack of a smile on the Leprechaun's face. "No
matter how many human ages I live through, I will never cease to be
amazed at the ability of human youths to ignore the wisdom of their
elders."
"If I might be so bold, sir, may I request what name or title we may
address you by?"
"Call me Patty. No titles. Just Patty."
"Patty, sir, may I beg release from this prison you have created for us?"
"Don't be jumping the gun, youngster. First, I need to determine
whether or not you're a threat. Now what possessed ye to try and tag
this old man like some wild beastie?"
"My apologies, sir, but my friend has spells upon her that are
causing her some problems. We simply sought to find their origin so
that we might end her problems."
"Hmm. I can feel me magic upon her, but the face isn't familiar."
Patty stared at her for a second and said, "Oh, yes, now I know."
Samantha asked, "So?"
"What so?"
"Why'd you cast these spells on me?"
"Can't tell you."
"Why not?"
"Part of the deal. You got some changes to your body thanks to the
wishes of another. However, he also wished that no one would
remember anything different from what he wished for. Without a
direct wish to the contrary I can't tell you what was. It'd be goin'
back on me word."
"Well, I wish you'd tell me what was before."
Patty laughed. "Doesn't work like that, kiddo. Wishes must be
bought or bargained for. I don't just give them away."
"How much for a wish?"
"Depends on the quality of the gold you're bargaining with. The
purer the gold, the smaller the quantity needed."
"Gold?"
Karl said, "He's a Leprechaun, Samantha. You maybe expected him to
take a check?"
"But I don't have any gold."
"I do." Karl went into his bedroom, returning only seconds later.
"I've got this necklace. It's not much but it is almost solid 24
karat gold."
Karl handed it over to Patty. The necklace wasn't much more than a
string of gold, but Patty said, "More than enough. In fact, with
this quality, I'll give you... two wishes with a free warning. I
must grant the letter of the wish, not the intent. So consider
carefully what you will ask for and make your wish."
Karl said, "I give my wishes to Samantha."
"Perfectly allowable." Samantha looked to the space where the door
used to be. Patty said, "Don't worry about that. I can tell you're
not some ambitious wizard, intent on trapping me, so once we're done,
everything here will return to normal. Wish for what you want."
"I wish I knew why you cast your spells on me and changed me."
When Patty said, "Granted," Sam's mind filled with images of a past
that no longer was.
She saw a time where she was a boy named Sam. He had been on the
football team of his local high school, and their team had been
ranked last in the district. About half way through the season, the
coach met Patty and got three wishes by trading an old trophy to him.
The coach wished that no one would notice the changes he wished for,
that all the team members would get perfect bodies, and that the team
could out-perform any other team in the city. Problem was, by making
the last wish so all encompassing, the coach had made a mistake.
There were a few all-girl schools in the city and in order for the
team to be able to play against them, the team had to become girls.
Sam came out of her reverie, and said, "I get it now. Thanks, Patty."
Karl asked, "So what is it?" Sam explained everything. "So you've
got another wish. Are you going to go back?"
"No. I told you; I like what I am. I don't want to go back. It's
just that being different without knowing why was driving me crazy.
I'm going to give you back the other wish."
"Oh, no. I have read too many stories with people getting screwed
because they wished for the wrong thing, not knowing what they were
wishing for. You've got the genius I.Q. You wish for something.
World peace, maybe."
Patty laughed. "Sorry, kiddo. I do wishes, not miracles. Affecting
six billion minds to bring about world peace is beyond any single
fae. Perhaps it's beyond all fae. Keep it small."
Karl said, "You're still the best choice for deciding what to wish for, Sam."
"Okay, I wish... that Karl would get his fondest desire."
Patty looked Karl up and down. "I suspect that granting his fondest
desire will give him more than he thought." Patty put his pipe back
in his mouth and blew into it like it was a bubble pipe. A shower of
sparkles exploded out the other end and, for a moment, Karl and Sam
couldn't see.
When their eyes cleared, Patty was gone, the room had reverted to
normal and Karl had changed. Gone was the lanky boy, and in his
place was a beautiful girl. She was looking at her arm and said,
"Amazing."
"Why'd you change?"
"I'm a transvestite, Sam. My magic depends on it. It's not uncommon
in many "primitive" cultures for shamans and the like to be
cross-dressers. If I don't spend a good deal of my off-time in
dresses then my magic will fade away."
"So you wanted to be a woman to be more powerful?"
"No, that's just a benefit."
"Then what did you want?"
"I wanted to be a part of your life. I see you and Janey, and the
love you share, and, fault me for being selfish, but I just wanted to
share in that. And since you and Janey are lesbians..."
"That meant you had to become a girl."
"Could you possibly accept me as a lover?"
Sam looked the new girl up and down. "As long as Janey doesn't have
a problem with you. I think you're a fantastic looker, and you, Karl
or..."
"Carla."
"Karl or Carla, you have always been a great friend."
"Thank you!" Carla leapt into Sam's arms. The two kissed. Sam
swept the new girl into her arms and carried her towards the bedroom.
If Janey objected, Sam would've given up Carla, but somehow she was
sure that Janey would find Carla as attractive as she did. After
all, anything less would mean that that last wish hadn't been granted.

"This is reality, not T.V. Can't you tell the difference?"
"Sure. I just like T.V. better."
