The Farmer's Daughter By Ramapo The wind roared lightly over the open window in the sunroof of the car as I headed off the interstate and into the hills. The pressures of the last two months and the long hours had pushed me to the very edge and I needed some time to clear my head and think. The one thing I knew for sure was how unhappy I had become. The fast promotions, the enormous increases in pay, the bonuses. None of it was satisfying me any longer it seemed. Just the opposite, in fact. And today's success only added fuel to the fire of discomfort. Under my leadership, we had just closed the largest account in the history of the firm and clinched another enormous bonus and promotion for me to Vice President. The road led away into the hills and I just steered and let the car run. Not going fast enough to have to pay attention to the driving. I looked around and felt a peace coming over me, so I continued on, sightseeing and admiring the smooth rise and fall of these hills in western Tennessee. There were farms spotted here and there in the valleys. They thinned out as I pushed further and further back into the hills on this winding road. The longer I drove, the better I felt. I began to relax a bit and tried to think about my future. What did I want, anyway? Now only trees were passing and the road changed to dirt and I slowed down and continued, not paying much attention to the increasingly remote area I was driving into. At the next road crossing, I'd get out the map and figure out where I ended up and head for a main road. But a crossing or road sign didn't show up for a while and I threaded the narrow road and kept going. I had plenty of gas, so I enjoyed the solitude of the woods and wind in my hair for the time being. In truth, I didn't know what I wanted. But I was becoming more and more sure it wasn't the life I was in now. Oh, the money was fantastic. And the people were nice enough to work with. But I was moving very fast and had become increasing doubtful of my ability to guide them and was terrified of making a mistake that could cost jobs. In the end, I just didn't have the killer instinct. Up a slight slope, I continued on and just at the top, the car began to run rough and cut out, then died. Still a half tank of gas. Damn. I picked up my cellular phone and found I couldn't make a connection. Not in range. Great, just great. I realized I was in the woods and not a field was in sight. I got out and popped the hood and looked underneath. No signs of visible leaks or loose wires. It must be the fuel pump or contaminated fuel. It didn't act electrical. I tried to start it again and it idled for a few seconds and then surged and died. Not a hopeful sign. It was four o'clock. In the middle of nowhere. I locked up the car and walked to the other side of the crest and could make out a mailbox a hundred yards ahead. I dreaded walking in the dirt in my new Italian shoes, but it couldn't be helped. The mailbox was straight and had the name Calvert neatly painted on it, with lots of very nicely painted flowers around it. The base was a neat bed of flowers, carefully tended. The lane leading back into the woods was also nicely trimmed and leveled. There were reasonably fresh tire tracks visible in the dirt, so I started back into the woods. About two hundred yards back in, the outline of a white house began to emerge from the trees and I stepped at last into a small front yard. To the left of the house was a shed of some sort and I could make out the outline of several cars under tarps and covers. One chrome bumper was partially uncovered and its familiar shape made me immediately think, "'28 Packard". My grandfather had owned one and my dad would tell me all about it and show me the pictures. The car was a legend in my family. I walked over by the car and looked a little closer. The enormous size of the car loomed in the dim light in the shed. "It's a '29." The sound of the voice from behind startled me and I jumped. Turning, I could see a husky man of about 45 walking toward me from the house. I cleared my throat and tried to act calm. He was carrying a shotgun. "I thought it was a '28." The quiver in my voice didn't help. He laughed. "Common enough mistake. They only made a few '29s and didn't make many changes." He held out his hand. "Frank Calvert. What brings you back here on foot?" The accent was from anywhere other than this neck of the woods. "Car trouble I'm afraid. I left it out on the road and went looking for help." We shook hands. "You interested in old cars?" He asked. "Sorry about the gun. We get some thieves back here from time to time. And I don't take any chances." "Understandable for you to be cautious." I looked back at the car. "No, not actually all that much. My grandfather had one. An old Packard that is. And growing up, my Dad would tell me all about it." "Nice cars. Well built." He pulled the cover back. It was huge. Solid. Probably a delight to drive. "Hard to find parts now, though. Come on inside. Let's call the garage down in the valley and see if they can get out here tonight. Don't count on it, though. They don't come out like they used to. Especially now that Wally has that thing on the side with Matilda." "Matilda? Wally?" "He's the chief mechanic. Got himself a little southern fried ass in town and she can only see him right after work before her husband gets home. He's standing on her doorstep every night at five-o-five as they tell it." We walked over to the house and went inside after wiping the dust off our shoes on the neat and clean mat. Everything was neat, tidy and very clean. There were fresh flowers on a side table. He picked up the phone and in a few moments was talking to the garage. He handed me the phone and I gave them the information about the car, the symptoms and where it was located. It was clear from the outset they didn't want to come out and I tried to argue, but had to give up. They'd be out before noon the next day. I hung up. "Told you." He said. "Elizabeth, set another plate for dinner!" He hollered back past me. I turned just in time to see a young woman of about 20 come out of the back of the house. If ever I have been awestruck in someone's presence, it was this moment. The girl was quite beautiful, with a clear complexion, full, sensuous lips, long dark brown hair with tapered bangs, a great volume thickly braided behind her to her tail. She had the most beautiful green eyes I'd ever seen. They were cold, hard gleaming emeralds and looked right through me. A chill went down my spine. Broad shouldered with large, widely separated breasts held up with a tied blue shirt, they surged out past her sides and overhung the tiniest waist I'd ever seen on a woman. A perfect vertical crease for a navel and then a smooth flow out to wider, mature hips and long straight legs in jeans with cowboy boots on her feet. My gaze came back to her face and she had an eyebrow raised. My too long once over had been seen for what it was and she smiled very slightly. I felt an ache and looked away. In spite of myself, I stole another look over at her. Stunning, absolutely stunning. I could hardly breathe. "We're having bear." She said. And turned and walked back to the back of the house. I turned to Frank in question. She must be kidding! "Actually, she's not joking. Once a year we eat bear. An old family tradition. Your lucky day." Elizabeth was back. "You might as well come out to the barn and keep me company while I take care of Lightning. Dinner's not for a while yet. You can stay in the back bedroom next to mine. We'll get your stuff from the car after dinner." And she turned to go. I followed. We walked out the back and up the hill to the barn, which was a couple of hundred feet further up the lane that ran alongside the house. "What does bear taste like?" I ventured, trying to stop being tongue tied. "You either think it's the best thing you've ever eaten, or think it's road kill warmed over." "Not exactly high praise." "I cook the best bear in this area of the country. Some people just think bear tastes lousy." We arrived at the barn and went inside. I stood to one side and watched her quickly muck out the otherwise immaculate stall and begin to put down fresh straw. The horse, an enormous stallion, cooperated at first, then began to block her as she tried to move around. She smacked his rump several times, and shoved him, but then she put the pitch fork down and walked around to the front of the horse. And simply stared him down. "Lightning, I want you to move out of my way. Right now. You know what will happen if you don't move." The horse shivered and shook his head. He looked back up. She was standing with hands on hips, coolly waiting. He shivered again. "Now, Lightning." He neighed and moved over. She picked up the fork and finished with the straw. Giving him his food for the evening and putting in fresh water, she checked around, straightened the barn quickly and we walked back down toward the house. I was enthralled over the control she had over this animal. She had more self confidence than anyone I'd met in a long time. You could feel her strength. "What would have happened? If he didn't move? No dinner?" "Never. I'd never abuse him. He knows that. No, he just wouldn't get his treat later, that's all." "What kind of treat?" I looked over. God, what a figure she had as her breasts moved heavily under her shirt. Sideways, her waist was almost invisible. The ache increased. I thought of her father and knew it was impossible. I tried to push the thought down. She looked over at me. "Oh, a special treat I give him. Ahhh, I don't think I can tell you just what." "I won't tell anyone." "Well, we'll see. It's pretty private between me and Lightning." Now that set me to wondering as we walked. We went back inside the house. "Look, I've got to catch a shower before dinner. Make yourself at home. Lot's of magazines in front. TV. Computer if you want to play on the internet." "Out here?" "Hey, we're not hicks. Just 'cause Dad decided to put down roots out about twenty miles from anything remotely similar to civilization. I'm glad you can stay. Meeting people is tough around here." She glanced over and I felt the thrill again. Damn. I fought for control and barely won this time. "You want me to sign you on? Do you need to e-mail anyone about being stuck?" "Yes, as a matter of fact, that would be nice." She signed me on and I sent a couple of quick e-mails to my secretary and a few others telling them I'd be in later in the week once I got out of the hills. For just a brief instant, I hoped it would take a couple of days to fix the car. I could use the rest. I thought about Elizabeth and found my fingers shaking too hard to type. It would be a disaster to approach her in this tiny house with her shotgun toting father only feet away. Even as I thought it, I was still torn by the powerful attraction and couldn't force the thought completely from my mind. I signed off and shut down the machine. It was a pretty nice box. Lots of memory and a fast Pentium processor. Two big hard disks. I looked around. A top of the line flatbed scanner. A couple of SyQuest cartridge drives and a caddy or two full of cartridges. Heavy duty color printer. These people were power users. Definitely not what I expected. She wasn't anyway. Wow. I thought back to her controlling that horse with her tone. That dull ache was back full-time now and I was even determined to pushed it down. I knew what it meant. And I ran from it. A magazine held my interest for a while and then I heard Elizabeth in the back finishing dinner. Frank came in not long afterward and washed up. "Dinner!" Elizabeth called out as she came back in the room. Elizabeth was transformed. Her beautiful long hair was now down and loose from the braid and was falling in gentle waves down her front and over her breasts. The blouse and bare midriff were gone, as well as the jeans, replaced now with a simple house dress, with a low scoop front showing off the beautiful separation of her breasts, a simple tie at the waist pinched it in to accent her impossibly small waist, and her tan legs thrust down straight to trim ankles and dainty feet, accenting the curve of her hips. Such a simple dress. On her, it took my breath away. We locked eyes for a moment and I knew she wore it for me. And was pleased I noticed. I blushed. I could feel my face burn. She motioned me over to a chair with her and her father around the circular table. We dished out the meal onto our plates boardinghouse style and I sat and stared at the dark brown meat. Bear. They both began to dig in and I cut a small piece of the meat and bravely took a bite. It was a heavy, tangy meat, very chewy, not my idea of an edible item. I longed to spit it out. I chewed and chewed. "Well, great or road kill?" Elizabeth was joking. There was that raised eyebrow again. But a small smile played on her lips. Her green eyes were sparkling. I almost choked trying to wash it down with some water. "Road kill!" She laughed. "I told you it was terrible!" "Here, have some of my chicken." She forked some over on my plate. "It's not so bad." I tried to save face for her. "It's rubbish. I don't know how Frank eats that stuff. Once a year I'll make it. That's it. Me, I eat chicken." Her eyes were glittering and she gave me a smile that told me it was a joke at my expense. Her smile was dazzling. I blushed again. She noticed. I tried to make conversation. "I was very impressed with how well trained Lightning is. Elizabeth can really control him." "Did she tell you how she got him?" "Dad. No. Not that story again!" Elizabeth was warning him. But she was smiling. "Go ahead. You tell it." She was watching me. "OK, well, anyway, there was this family down in the valley who got this horse for their kid." "Joe Templeton." She filled in. "Yeah, Joe. Anyway, Joe didn't have any horse sense and the horse knew he was afraid of it, so it just ran wild over him. Was useless. Just ate hay and took up space. Joe was afraid to ride it. Well, Elizabeth went down there one evening after dishes were done last year and just sat on the fence until the horse came over. And then she talked to it for a while." "We came to an understanding." Elizabeth looked deep into my eyes. The ache in me soared and I couldn't hold it back. It would be a flood soon. I couldn't stay here. Not now. "She marched into the Templeton's and announced she was taking the horse, that the horse agreed to come with her! Just like that! They were so surprised that they let her have it. Never did send us a bill." I looked at Elizabeth. "He was unhappy and I told him I'd take care of him and love him and never hurt him. But I'd be in charge. Totally. He thought it over and agreed. I gave him a hug and brought him home. And named him Lightning because of the way he could run. He hated his old name anyway." "Just like that?" "Yes. He became mine. He gave himself to me." A flat statement. Dinner ended and I helped with the dishes. Then we walked out to the end of the lane and up to my car and I got out my bag and some other odds and ends and we put them upstairs in the back room. Elizabeth showed me the adjoining shower and the door to her room, which opened into my room. And then she began to go back downstairs. And came back. "I'm going to give Lightning his treat. If you come, you have to promise to stay back and not tell Frank." I nodded agreement. And followed her in silence out to the barn. Just inside the now dim barn, she pushed me back by the wall. "Don't move from here. He gets real nervous. And I...." She didn't finish. "OK." I whispered. "Don't talk either." I fell silent and she walked the horse out from the stall and he stood outside in the wider area in front. Elizabeth began to talk softly in terms I couldn't hear and the horse began to tremble. She stroked its face and neck and then, her back to me, she reached back and unbuttoned the top button of her dress and the rest down to the waist. The dress fell away and her tan back was now visible to me with no tan lines showing. She slipped her arms quickly out of the sleave holes and the dress fell away. The erotic swell of her separated tanned breasts pushed well past her trim sides. She turned her head and looked at me for a moment and hesitated. She continued to stroke the head and neck of the powerful animal, her heavy breasts swinging slightly as they swung out past her sides in smooth full swellings. The horse lowered his head and rubbed against her, pushing her breasts back and forth. She held him tight and continued to whisper in a gentle, tight voice. The animal never stopped shivering from this intimate contact and Elizabeth appeared aroused as well. She was careful not to let me see any more. Finally she pulled back and continued to stroke him. Then she pulled her dress up and put her arms back in the dress and led the horse back into his stall and locked it behind him. She talked to him for a bit more, then, holding her dress up in front to cover herself, she came over and turned her back to me. I buttoned her up. My fingers burned when they touched the warmth of her silky skin. Outside, she said. "Remember, you promised." "That is one lucky horse." Even as I said it, I wasn't sure what the horse was getting from it. Was it for her? "And he knows it. I don't do that very often for him. It's a special treat." "Have you ever...?" I started and stopped myself. "Let him screw me? He's really huge. I'm sure he'd hurt me if I let him. I mean, you can only stretch so far." She looked embarrassed. "Sorry for saying that." She continued. "I have thought about it. Any girl who owns a horse thinks about it. That's all most of us ever do about it." We walked back to the house. "He looked like he likes it." "That makes two of us." She looked over at me meaningfully. The ache inside was now a volcano. A cold shower was what I needed. We ended up instead talking for a long while about her computer gear and how she made her living at the house doing graphics for ads at the papers in the valley. Her computer skills were outstanding, but her business knowledge was weaker and I gave her some tips on how to set competitive prices and stay ahead of her competition. Frank stopped in and said good night and headed up to bed. I realized how completely comfortable I was talking to her and how quickly we picked up on each others thoughts. A soul mate. I burned. Elizabeth and I talked for a while longer and she went on up. I pleaded time to just read and unwind a bit. She stood in the door for a short instant and looked back. I sat for a half hour trying to calm down. It didn't work. I finally went up and took the coldest shower of my life in the ice cold spring water from the well. And lay in bed and waited for sleep to take me. It didn't come. I was shivering and it wasn't the shower. The volcano in me wasn't going to be denied and finally, I got up and went and stood in the doorway to Elizabeth's room. A single candle was burning in a distant corner. I couldn't tell if she was awake or not. Like some magnet pulling me forward, I weakened and finally stepped into her room and stood, unable to move another step. "I knew you'd come to me." She said quietly. "Come here." I walked over to her. She had on a nightgown and sat up and swung her legs over the edge of the bed as I approached. "It's wrong...." I started. She put her fingers over my mouth and sat me on the bed and stood herself. She raised her nightgown and revealed the luscious body that had been pulling me toward it since I first laid eyes on her. Her breasts were magnificent, and the rest was voluptuous beyond my experience or imagination. I reached out with a shaking hand to touch her and she stopped me gently but firmly and pushed me down on my back. She began to run her hands over my body and I trembled and reached again for her. Again she stopped me and drew back. I waited and she began to stroke me and this time I let her, my hands at my side. The ache inside soared and I became so aroused I felt I would explode. Her warm breath on my ear was electrifying and I groaned. Higher and higher I soared and then she simply said, "Come for me now, my darling." And I did. Powerfully and almost explosively. It left me shaking and exhausted. Her hands never stopped and soon she aroused me again. And again she refused my attempts to touch her and then she led me to an orgasm even more powerful than the first. I was sweating heavily from excitement. She finally took my head and looked deep into my eyes. "You are so unhappy. I can see it in your eyes. Come stay with us. With me. I can make you happier than you've ever been. Love you like you can't imagine." And I knew she could. That she was what I needed. Wanted. That the need inside could no longer be denied. That it was what I wanted. Completely. But I still resisted. "I don't know..." I couldn't let go. "You know the rules if you stay." She continued on. "Yes." "I'll make you happy." "I know, Elizabeth. I've dreamed of you all my life." "I know. And I of you." "It's so sudden. I'm scared to death." "There's nothing to be scared of when you're with me. Please say yes." She whispered in my ear. Her hands started moving over my body again. "Yes." And she kissed me in a way I've never been kissed before or since. A bonding and sealing of the agreement between us. I made love to her then. And she was so beautiful and erotic that I lost myself in her charms. The dawn began to break before we both fell back, our lust slated for just a few minutes. I would never get enough of her. I knew that now. And she would take care of me too. She rolled over and kissed me. "I have to get the breakfast going and feed Lightning. You sleep." "Your father..." "He'll understand. Don't worry." "But.." "Sleep." And I did as weariness crashed down on me. I awoke to the smell of bacon and eggs and hot coffee. I quickly washed my face, pulled some casual clothes from my bag, and struggled down the back stairs to the kitchen. Frank and Elizabeth were both almost finished eating as I took my seat, very nervous. Afraid to look him in the face. Frank continued eating, not looking up. "I told Dad I invited you to stay for a while until you sort things out." I poured some coffee. "Are you sure?" "Wouldn't have it any other way." He pushed a plate of eggs and bacon toward me. I scooped a few of each and began to eat. "This young lady pretty much gets her way when she puts her mind to it." Elizabeth waited to get up until I was almost done. She picked up her stuff and walked behind me and ran her warm hand over my neck as she passed. I trembled to her touch. At the back door, the farmer's daughter turned and said, "Hurry Catherine, it's time for your first riding lesson." She smiled and I realized I was truly happy for the first time in my life.
