If you are not old enough to read this in your country, then don't. It as simple as that. Same goes for people who are offended by this type of material. No-one if forcing you to read it, if you don't like it, don't read it. **Special note I'm English not American, but still, with the bombardment of American images that we receive in this country on TV and in films, I get confused from time to time. It's not my fault, blame the media!!! The name Nobby Nobbs comes from the Discworld(R) series of books by Terry Prachett. <-------------------------------------------------------------------> Phone Talk [3/7] by Nobby Nobbs (c)Copyright 1999 Nobby Nobbs Chapter 3 ----------- The weekend following his telephone conversation with Rachel, John spent with his current girlfreind, Susan. Nothing extraordinary happened, they went out as usual, to the pictures, to a club. John never mentioned his phone call. He cared about Susan a lot, but she was insecure, and he didn't know she would react to the news that he had been talking to Rachel. He was uneasy about making love to Susan, but tried not to show it. The last thing he wanted was to call out Rachel's name at the point of ecstasy. He knew that he might. Fortunatly Susan told him they couldn't do it, it was her time of the month. This only served to remind John of the number of times he and Rachel had made love despite the blood. He just couldn't get Rachel off his mind. Still, it was nearly two weeks before John phoned Rachel back. He had picked up the reciver on many occassions, but feeling guilty he ended up dialing Susan instead. "Hi," he said as the phone was answered, "Is Rachel there?" "It's me, hi John." "Hi." "I'm glad you called back." she said. "Eventually. I've wanted to before now, but... you know what I mean." "Yeah, I know." "So how have you been." he asked. "Not too good. I've had flu." "Oh, I'm sorry to hear that." said John. "What about you?" she asked, "Any news on the job front?" "Yes actually," he said, "I've got a job at a software firm in town." "Oh, I am glad." There was a pause before John spoke, "I'm been thinking about you." He couldn't see it but he could sense Rachel smile, "In fact," he continued, "you've all I've been able to think about. I can't stop thinking about you, about us, about how it was at uni." "It was good. I miss those times." she said. "I've felt so guilty spending time with Susan, thinking about you." "What have you told her?" "Nothing. She'd freak if she knew I'd been talking to you. That's what makes me feel guilty. If she was fine with it, I could talk to you as a freind, but as it is..." "I understand." said Rachel. "I reckon I'd feel the same." "The same as me or the same as Susan?" "Probably both, dependant on the situation." Their conversation flowed, they talked freely covering a number of subjects for over half an hour. Rachel was deligted to be talking to John again, to be getting on so well after so long. Deep in the recesses of her soul she longed to see him again, but she knew that she couldn't suggest it. She didn't want to intrude on his life now, to wreck things for him. John sensed that there was something wrong in Rachel's voice. "Rach, what's wrong?" "Nothing." she said quickly, "Nothing's wrong, what makes you think that?" "Just something in your voice. I always used to be able to tell so much from your voice, and now, there's just something there." "Perceptive as ever. You can still read me like a book." "So what is it?" "I just," she paused, gathering her thoughts, "I just miss you that's all. I miss that we always used to do everything together. I miss cooking with you, shopping with you. I guess I just long for the past. Speaking to you brings it all back." "Tell me about it," he replied, "d'you know what I dreamnt about after you called me last time?" "Same thing as me, I'll bet." "Well if you dreamnt about the night we got together you'd be right." "It was very nice." she said, "Do you know that you showed me just how pleasureable sex can be?" "You've told me that a few times." He paused breifly before continuing, "Hey, do you remember that day that Joe told us he had had sex seven times in one day," "Oh yeah," giggled Rachel, "and we tried to beat his record. Doing it between lectures, trying to get in a quickie between 'Eastenders' and 'Top Gear'. How many times in all?" "Over the whole twenty four hours I think it was about twelve." "Nearly double Joe's record." "Then he told us it didn't count because he'd done it over twelve hours." John lauged at the memory. "Rach? Can I ask you something?" "Sure, anything. You know that." "Do you remember that night with Robbie and Karen." "You mean.." "Yeah, that one. Did that.... I mean. Oh, how can I put this. Was your going out with Robbie after you moved out of the flat, infulenced by what happened that night?" "Not really. We were all pretty drunk that night, and it didn't affect our relationship long term. I think he was just there at the right time, that's all." "That night was pretty wild. Although I doubt it would have happened if not for the booze and the pot." "It was certainly a break from the norm, not that our sex life was normal." "I would have called it, Healthy." said John. "Healthy? Does that mean sex almost every night, sex in public places, sex.." "That's what it says in the magazines my sister reads." said John. "She must read the same ones as me." John told her it was time to be going, he dreaded getting the phone bill as it was. They said their goodbyes, and Rachel promised to phone him again soon. As he put the phone down John look at the clock, there was still time for him to phone Susan. Rachel clicked the disconnect button on the reciver and held it to her chest. Of all the men she had met before, none of them measured up to John's high standards. What a fool she had been to walk out. She missed him so much. <-------------------------------------------------------------------> **Copyright Notice This work is Copyright 1999 Mark G. Everitt.
