For those who haven't been following the discussion on alt.sex.stories.d, ASSTR (Alt.Sex.Stories Text Repository) will be taking over moderation of the alt.sex.stories.moderated newsgroup, replacing Eli the Bearded as moderator. Eli has "retired" as moderator after a marriage, a cross country move, and a new job. ASSTR can not thank him enough for the assistance he provided to the ASSTR team in resuming the newsgroup moderation. Without Eli, this smooth and quick of a transition would not have been possible. I would like to welcome everyone back to this group. I know a lot of you have missed it, and I can sincerely tell you all it gives the entire ASSTR team great pleasure being able to bring it back for everyone's enjoyment. A lot of work has gone into bringing the group back, and we hope to be able to offer the best moderated newsgroup on the Internet. I know some of you could care less about an archive for ASSM or ASSTR itself, and in an attempt to show those of you who feel this way that ASSTR is truly dedicated to this newsgroup, I'd like to outline some improvements that have been made over the old ASSM. First, ASSTR will permit and honor the use of the "X-No-Archive: Yes" header for those of you who do not wish for your posts to ASSM to be archived at the ASSM Archive web site at http://assm.asstr-mirror.org ASSTR, feeling that the archival of stories is highly beneficial and worthwhile, prefers posters not use this header, as doing so limits the audience for a poster's work. Additionally, after the post expires from the newsgroups, unless it is reposted, it's gone for good. Of course, there are also some valid reasons for not having a post archived. Therefore, desiring to make the spam-free ASSM newsgroup appeal to as many authors as possible while believing that an author should retain full control of his/her works, ASSTR is letting the choice to archive remain with the poster. Second, posting via attachments is supported. This means you can post to ASSM by sending your work as an email or usenet posting attachment. ASSTR's in-house developed moderation software will automatically convert the attachment to its original text file format and allow it to be posted. Third, ASSTR's software engineering team has also developed a text reformatting program for those of you who have trouble formatting your stories to the standard 75 or so characters per line. This system, named "Smart Text Enhancement Processor (STEP)" will automatically reformat any posts exceeding the 75 character margin. STEP improves the readability of non-word wrapped posts tremendously. Note that at this time, STEP only works with attachments, not with stories that are in the body of the email. Finally, the biggest change is the way the group will be moderated from now on, although this is more of a "behind the scenes" change. ASSTR has switched the moderation from a one-man operation to a team oriented approach. ASSTR has developed software that automates as much of the newsgroup moderation as possible, and then allows ASSM Moderation Team Members (MTMs) to approve and reject messages. The system allows for an unlimited number of MTMs, ensuring that there will always be available moderators. For the record, the moderators will not be able to edit the posts - they will only be able to approve or reject them. Please note that we have had some problems receiving messages posted to a few usenet servers. Therefore, if you'd like to contribute to ASSM, please email your submissions to ckought69@hotmail.com Posting your works to alt.sex.stories.moderated may work, but emailing your submission directly will alleviate the chance of it not making it. Once ASSTR has determined this problem to be minimal, we'll post another announcement. As Janey has been announcing for the past week or two, today will be a special day for ASSM, featuring those works submitted by authors for part of the "GALA Grand Opening." All of the stories today are completely new - stuff you've never seen before. There's a wide variety of stories, so you're almost certain to find something you like. Tomorrow, ASSTR will return to normal, as it was on April 1st. Any erotic story will be posted, regardless of the author or content. In closing, I'd just like to remind everyone that comments regarding the way ASSM is being moderated (be them good or bad) are always welcome and encouraged.
