What I am trying to do is to satisfy both authors and readers as nearly as possible. For the readers: That means that I won't post anything that is in an unreadable format, nor anything which I haven't read myself and wouldn't want to. That means that I am trying to keep all files shorter than 30K as that is the length which gives almost nobody problems. That means that I post story codes in almost all cases. The story codes on the subject line are my own, not necessarily those (if any) that the author used. This gives some degree of consistency, and I try to follow the story code FAQ. That means that I will post relatively few incomplete stories, and only those where I believe that the section stands by itself. These should be labeled "part" on the subject line. For the authors: That means that I won't post any story unless I am fairly well convinced that the author welcomes reposting. Right now, I am sticking with stories which give an author's disclaimer and those stories whose authors I have actually contacted. That means that I try to publish a disclaimer from the author expressing his copyright claim. The _next_ reposter won't have to guess. That means that I keep the author's name and the title that he gave the story close to the body of story. Right now, I plan to repost five files a day. One of these will be one chapter in the marvelous serial "The Adventures of Me and Martha Jane." This story is complete, but it was originally posted as a long serial. I think that it reads better this way. ================== The reposts for next week. Remember that these are the scheduled posting dates. The stories may land on your new reader in minutes, in days, or never. As mentioned, I'll continue the classic "The Adventures of Me and Martha Jane." This coming week will include parts 3D to 5A. If you read alt.sex.stories.moderated, of course, you lose almost all the spam, and only a minority of the stories. If you read alt.sex.stories itself, however, fighting the spam is part of the problem. One way to do that is to get your newsreader to present your news queue in alphabetical order. AOL can be configured to do so. Even better, if you are on a Unix-based ISP, is to use TIN. That can be configured to present the subject lines in reverse-alphabetical order. This will bring all the posts which begin {ASS} or {Author's Name} almost to the beginning of your news queue. This will represent about half of all actual story posts, and all of these reposts. ================== Coming Attractions John Dark -30- -- +--------------' Story submission `-+-' Moderator contact `------------+ | story-submit@qz.little-neck.ny.us | story-admin@qz.little-neck.ny.us |
