Captain Jones left his chair to gaze out the starboard observation window, watching as the silver Highwind-class airship slid into position beside his own craft. "The Firestorm is hailing us." "Transfer it to my headset," ordered Jones, frowning as he took his seat again. "Captain Jones here, why have you joined us, sir?" "Our forces were routed at Nibelheim. I've come to take charge of the Rocket Town assault," replied Colonel Kurita sharply. "As you wish, sir. We're about ten hours away from the target." "Maintain the squadron's course and speed. I'll take over when we're in attack range." "Aye, sir," nodded Jones just before the comm line was broken. "Inform me when we enter attack range of Rocket Town. Colonel Kurita will be assuming tactical command." "Aye, sir," acknowledged the tactical officer, his attention never leaving his screens. "Finally, my Little Bronco is finished," smiled Cid proudly, staring up at the bow of the small flying ship. "How about we take it out for a test flight?" "You go ahead, I have to get home to Jenny," replied Vincent, wiping his dirty hands with a small towel. "She's really got you domesticated, eh?" chuckled Cid. "Not really," protested Vincent without much conviction. "Are you going to leave her?" "I think it's for the best. I shouldn't have stayed as long as I did." "Do you love the lass?" "Yes," admitted Vincent with a swallow. "I'm not one to give advice about relationships, but I think Jenny's been really good for you. Perhaps you should stay with her, see how things work out. She loves you, everyone knows it." "I noticed," blushed Vincent. "Ha! Go home to your girl. I'll keep Little Bronco company," grinned Cid, slapping Vincent roughly on the right shoulder. Vincent returned Cid's smile with difficulty, tossing his soiled towel amidst some nearby tools before beginning his short journey to Jenny's house. It was early evening, Vincent could smell the scent of cooking emanating from the kitchen. He softly closed the main door, following the pleasant odors of broiling meat and baking bread until he entered the kitchen proper. "Vincent! How did work go today?" asked Jenny cheerfully, slicing freshly baked bread for dinner. "It's done. Cid's taking Little Bronco out for a test flight right now." "Oh," said Jenny, momentarily freezing in mid-slice before resuming her task. "I was thinking that I might leave for awhile, travel to Midgar to see if Cloud might need some help. He might still be fighting Jenova for all I know." "I see," replied Jenny, her back stiff. "I'd come back. I've enjoyed our time together," smiled Vincent weakly. "Could I come with you?" "It would be too dangerous. It would be best if you stayed here." "Well, I better give you a good dinner before you go," laughed Jenny, carrying the plate of bread to the kitchen table. "I will be back." "I believe you," smiled Jenny, leaning down to kiss Vincent's forehead. "Let's eat." The wind blasted over Cid's head as he piloted the Little Bronco higher into the clouds. He laughed loudly with exuberance, happy to be in the air once more. Enjoying the roar of the Little Bronco's engines, Cid frowned suddenly when he spotted the cloud of dots growing larger along the southern horizon. Cid banked the Little Bronco, speeding towards the unknown flyers. When Cid got close enough to recognize the larger airships, he cursed under his breath and banked again, this time altering course to take him back to Rocket Town. A buzzing grew louder behind him, alerting him as two Shinra flyers shot past his cockpit. Gritting his teeth, Cid armed the machine guns built within Little Bronco's wings and opened up on the Shinra craft, destroying one and ripping the wing of the second flyer. Praying to his engines for more speed, Cid held course for home, hoping he would reach it in time to warn Vincent and his fellow townsfolk. Vincent and Jenny sat at the summit of a slope that led down to the beach line. They leaned against each other, watching the descending sun turn the ocean to bronze. Jenny held Vincent's hand tightly, relishing the feel of his body next to hers, trying to store the sensation in her mind. "When will you leave?" "In the morning, after breakfast. Hopefully I can catch an airship in Nibelheim that will take me straight to Midgar." Jenny turned Vincent's face towards her, stroking his smooth cheek. She leaned forward, kissing him tenderly on the lips. Vincent returned the embrace, enjoying the taste of her full mouth. Jenny pushed Vincent onto his back, opening his shirt, sliding her hands over his strong chest. She kissed him again, unbuckling his pants, licking his neck. "Jenny..," said Vincent. "Hush. Give me this," replied Jenny, dragging off Vincent's pants, wrapping her fingers around his cock. She rubbed her small hands up and down Vincent's shaft while he placed his right hand under her blouse to massage her small breasts. Jenny smiled, her tits becoming hot from her lover's fondling. She stopped stroking Vincent's cock long enough to pull off her blouse and slide out of her long skirt. She pulled off her panties before straddling Vincent's crotch, grinding her pussy over his quivering shaft. Jenny placed her hands on Vincent's wide chest, bending down to lick his nipples. Vincent groaned softly, running his hands through Jenny's blonde hair. Jenny licked up Vincent's chest and neck, then kissed his mouth while guiding his prick to her yearning cunt. She inserted Vincent's cock into her vagina, gasping softly, licking her lips as she felt the long pole probe up into her uterus. Jenny started humping Vincent's shaft, her small ass bobbing up and down slowly, her pussy adorning Vincent's cock with glistening honey. Vincent grasped Jenny's breasts, squeezing them firmly, pinching her little pink nipples. Jenny moaned loudly, her vagina clenching around her lover's pole, milking it for his hot seed. Vincent and Jenny writhed together desperately, each knowing that this could be their last time together for a very long while. Jenny stretched out across Vincent, wrapping her thin arms around his neck, kissing him hungrily, covering his mouth with hers as they both approached orgasm. Vincent groaned, blasting his cum into Jenny's warm belly. Jenny panted softly, closing her eyes while she climaxed, showering Vincent's crotch with her juices. "Hold me," commanded Jenny, her arms still around Vincent's neck. Vincent placed his strong arms around Jenny's small waist, clutching her to him, mingling his warmth with hers. Cid sighed with relief as Rocket Town came into sight. He guided Little Bronco to the center of the village, switching the airship to hover mode. "Citizens of Rocket Town!" shouted Cid from Little Bronco's audio speakers. "We are about to be attacked by Shinra forces! Please seek shelter for the children and prepare to defend our homes!" Cid didn't wait to see if anyone obeyed, he roared towards the beach to see if Vincent and Jenny were at their usual spot. Little Bronco reached the beach quickly, and sure enough, Vincent and Jenny were wrapped up together in a tangle of blankets and bare limbs. "Vincent! Get dressed and go to the south entrance of town! Shinra airships are heading our way!" Vincent waved his arm in acknowledgment. Cid nodded and turned Little Bronco south, ready to defend his home from Shinra with his dying breath. Vincent and Jenny ran home, the streets filling with panicked villagers. Women dragged screaming children to the concrete bunkers surrounding the old rocket launch platform. Men and women who had guns moved to guard a barricade hastily formed across the southern edge of Rocket Town's main street. Vincent walked Jenny home, releasing her hand when she was safely at the front yard gate. "Stay inside. You'll be safe in the basement." "I want to be with you!" protested Jenny, her face streaming with tears. "You can't. Please, go to the basement," smiled Vincent, kissing Jenny reassuringly on the nose. "Vincent..I wanted to tell you later tonight..," hesitated Jenny, grasping Vincent's hand. "I have to go," urged Vincent, trying to take his hand out of Jenny's, the approaching airships already buzzing in the distance. "Vincent..I'm pregnant," said Jenny softly. Vincent blinked, his hand forgotten in Jenny's grasp. "What?" "I'm having your child." "Jenny," smiled Vincent, stroking the girl's left cheek. "I wanted you to know. You better get over there," smiled Jenny wanly, kissing Vincent's hand, then letting it go. Vincent watched Jenny disappear inside, the imminent attack momentarily forgotten. Shaking his head to clear the fog, Vincent sprinted towards the barricade. Cid hooted as another Shinra flyer exploded from machine gun fire. Cid piloted Little Bronco into a controlled spin, firing his guns the whole time. Four more flyers ripped apart, flaming debris fluttering down towards the earth. One of the Highwinds fired a salvo of missiles at Little Bronco. Cid cursed loudly, going into evasive maneuvers, aiming towards another hovering Highwind. Little Bronco dived down at the last minute, but the missiles continued, impaling the Highwind's hull, detonating deep in its heart. Cid swatted another flyer down before gaining altitude and raking a Highwind with a steady burst of gunfire. "Take down that airship!" screamed Col. Kurita while a third Highwind disappeared in a bright fireball that lit up the night sky. "We're trying, sir, but the craft is very agile and the pilot is quite talented," replied the tactical officer with grudging respect. "I don't care if that ship is being flown by Cid Highwind himself, destroy it!" "Aye, sir," growled the bridge officer, directing missile fire towards the wily little airship. Vincent held tightly to the rifle in both his hands, watching helplessly while a large airship touched down and disgorged a swarm of green armored Soldiers. The Shinra troops formed into ranks, their black rifles gleaming under the harsh light of flares fired from the Highwind. The Soldiers marched toward the barricade, the defenders checking weapons one more time before the killing began. Vincent ground his teeth together, he could feel the beast straining to break free. Now is not the time, he whispered to his dark half, shouldering his rifle and aiming at the head of one of the lead Soldiers. The first shot blew the head off a Rocket Town villager. The remaining defenders opened fire, knocking down several Soldiers in the attacking front rank. Vincent fired steadily and precisely, taking out squad leaders when he could, then switching to Soldiers with heavy weapons or obvious materia. Fire and Bolt spells flashed between both sides, explosions lighting up the night, accompanied by the screams of the dying. Vincent grunted when a bullet slapped into his left shoulder. The wound healed quickly, and Vincent slew his attacker with a negligent head shot. The villagers of Rocket Town accounted well for themselves, the Soldiers withered under the concentrated fire, with few townsfolk casualties behind the barricade. Growing desperate, the Highwind airship opened its forward missile bays, hurling bright projectiles towards the village proper. Homes and shops disappeared in pillars of fire, the villagers watching in shock as their town was systematically obliterated. Vincent stared along with the rest, then roared in fury when Jenny's house disintegrated from a missile strike. Vincent's body grew, becoming taller and more muscular. Clothing ripped to shreds as large, bat-like wings unfurled from Vincent's back. Vincent's skin turned to deep purple, his eyes glowed with blood-red fury, his fangs gleamed like razors. Vincent hurled into the air, releasing Fire blasts from his claws, burning any unlucky Soldier in his path. When all of the Shinra troops were dead, the transformed Vincent turned his deadly gaze towards the airship. Turbines roared as the craft slowly rose back up into the sky. Vincent clasped his hands together, concentrating. A swirl of black smoke formed in front of Vincent, tongues of fire flashing within the mist's heart. A huge pearl white skull emerged from the smoke, opening its fleshless jaws wide, vomiting a shaft of blood red energy. The beam punched right through the middle of the airship, splitting it in two. The two pieces of debris fell, trailing fire until they hit the ground and exploded with loud thuds. Still lost to bloodlust, Vincent flew after the airships fighting in the distance, the dark sky illuminated by dying flyers and streams of tracer fire. Cid grimaced when another missile slammed into Little Bronco's starboard hull. The main machine guns were dry, Cid was reduced to using the lighter caliber secondary guns. The secondaries were useless against the large Highwind ships, but they could still take down flyers. Cid pulled back on the control stick with all his strength, fighting to keep Little Bronco level while he lined up another flyer for a shot. He squeezed the firing stud, smiling coldly as slugs tore a long rent across the flyer's port side. Cid was temporarily blinded when a cloud of missiles roared around Little Bronco's cockpit, rocketing out into open air to the left before exploding. Cid struggled to keep control of his craft as aftershock waves from the missiles shook Little Bronco violently. Cid turned his head right, watching as the Firestorm dived towards him. "You want some, you Shinra bastard? Here, suck on this!" shouted Cid, banking Little Bronco towards the advancing Highwind. "Sir! Enemy craft on intercept course!" exclaimed the young male pilot. "Fire missile batteries!" spat Col. Kurita. "He's too close for a missile shot," replied the tactical officer scornfully. "Evade! Get us out of here!" panicked Kurita, his eyes flying from station to station. Little Bronco smashed into Firestorm's bridge. The airship shuddered in its death throes, slowly nosing down towards the ground. Secondary explosions lit up the hull until it crumpled on impact, exploding into a sphere of white hot fire. "Engines hit, Captain!" informed a bridge officer as Captain Jones sat calmly in his command chair. "Maintain fire with anti-personnel batteries," ordered Jones with cool dignity. "Breach to port hull," reported the officer as the bridge vibrated from the hit. Vincent flashed past the main viewport in a blur, a harsh blue Bolt leaping from his right claw to rip into the upper skin of the airship. Vincent shot up into the black sky, looping backwards away from the dying airship. He halted in mid-air, wings flapping, as he brandished a silver bracelet and invoked the materia embedded within it. Captain Jones watched in resignation as lightning and fire played about Vincent's monstrous body. "You have your target, tactical," suggested Jones. "Sorry, sir! Weapons control is down temporarily!" Captain Jones smiled, saluting Vincent just before he unleashed a succession of powerful Fire, Bolt, and Ice spells that completely destroyed the Highwind. Epilogue: Vincent knelt before the tombstone that rested at the edge of the beach line slope. He placed his hand against its face, hot tears coursing down his cheeks. Vincent sobbed painfully, his long black hair waving in the cold ocean breeze. Behind Vincent, Rocket Town lay in ruins, some destroyed buildings still smoking from the attack. He had found Jenny's body in the basement, broken like a doll, her green eyes staring and lifeless. He had carried her body here, to her favorite place, and held her until some villagers came to lay her to rest. He had shown no emotion the entire time until now, when he was about to leave her forever. "I'm sorry. I failed you, I failed our child. I wanted to tell you that I loved you, but now I never can. I'll make them pay, I'm going to make all those Shinra bastards pay. If I can't give you love, then I will give you vengence!" swore Vincent, his face contorted with hate. Wiping his sore eyes, Vincent stood up, wrapping a red scarf around his pale face. Looking at Jenny's tombstone one last time, Vincent turned away, walking south. The End.
